The Great (optional) Finals Debate

One of the things I've always struggled with is this concept of "optional finals." One one hand, it's awesome! I firmly believe that in some cases, less is more. However, there comes a time in every college student's life where he or she is on the verge, so close to that next grade up they can almost taste it. Yet..not quite there.

Y'all, I'm there now. With like, every class this semester. I managed a few solid GPA boosters, but this semester kicked. my. butt. So now I find myself in finals limbo with three optional finals. To take or not to take? Pros: raising my grade that last 1% to get that next letter grade (seriously, rounding people. I learned it in second grade), the satisfaction of giving my all and knowing I persevered and triumphed (cue Rocky theme), saving my dwindling GPA, feeling a little smart. Cons: I have to take more finals. And that one negative is enough to make you seriously question how much you value all your hard work throughout the years.

Call it senioritis (I do). Call it laziness. Call it what you will. I do not. Not. NOT. want to take these finals. But...I am. This year, I'm taking the optionals, y'all. And let's just say, the stress is having its way with me. FOUR finals in FOUR days. I know I can handle it, considering I've had about 4 tests a week every testing round this semester, but the word "optional" thrown in there makes it soooooo much harder to be motivated. In past years, I would not have thought twice about saying "see ya" to extra points and happily skipping into summer. But something is calling me back to the library.

Thank goodness they're somewhat spread out, unlike some I know who have four IN A ROW. So maybe it's not so bad. But maybe it is...

Happy Finals Week!
